Mitsubishi MDS-D-V2-16080 160/80A 2-Axis Servo Drive
The Mitsubishi MDS-D-V2-16080 is a 200V-series, two-axis CNC servo drive unit from the MDS-D family. It controls L- and M-axis servo motors from one module, with nominal maximum peak currents of 160A/80A and rated output currents of 29.6A/16A. It operates on a common DC bus and requires a correctly matched Mitsubishi power supply and drive-system configuration.

Dual-Axis Servo Control and Current Capacity
The 16080 designation means 160A/80A peak-current classes; it is not continuous current or motor kilowatts. The drive provides separate L- and M-axis outputs, motor-side encoder inputs at CN2L/CN2M, machine-side encoder inputs at CN3L/CN3M, and CNC optical communication through CN1A/CN1B. Regenerative and built-in dynamic braking functions operate within the complete MDS-D system.
Compatibility, Legacy Status, and Replacement
This unit requires a matched MDS-D-CV power supply and is not a standalone mains-powered amplifier. Confirm the full drive model, power-supply capacity, both motor models, encoders and cables, optical chain, connectors, software, axis switches, and parameters. Mitsubishi discontinued MDS-D in 2019 and succeeded it with MDS-D2, described as the same form and fit with built-in STO; however, MDS-D2-V2-16080 still requires engineering confirmation. MDS-D-V2-160160 and 400V MDS-DH-V2 units are not automatic substitutes.
Testing, Installation, and Protective Packing
REACO verifies power-up, optical communication, both axis channels, encoder feedback, output response, cooling-fan operation, and alarm-free recognition on a compatible test bench. Installation must be completed by qualified personnel. Preserve the original parameters, isolate all power, wait at least 15 minutes, confirm the CHARGE lamp is off, and verify the DC bus voltage before touching terminals.
