FANUC SV5136 Alarm: FSSB Insufficient Amplifier Number Troubleshooting

FANUC SV5136 alarm means the number of amplifiers recognized by FSSB is less than the number of controlled axes. This usually happens because the axis setting is incorrect, the servo amplifier connection is abnormal, the control power is unstable, the fiber optic cable connection is wrong, or the FSSB compatibility parameter such as 14476 is not set correctly.

Before replacing the CNC controller axis card or main board, first check the actual FSSB connection status, servo amplifier power supply, wiring condition, fiber optic connection, amplifier model compatibility, and FSSB-related parameters.

What Does FANUC SV5136 Alarm Mean?

FANUC SV5136 is an FSSB amplifier number insufficient alarm. It means that compared with the number of controlled axes, the number of amplifiers recognized by the FSSB system is not enough.

In simple terms, the CNC expects a certain number of servo amplifiers, but the actual amplifiers detected through FSSB are fewer than expected. This can be caused by wrong axis settings, incorrect amplifier connection, missing control power, incompatible amplifier model, abnormal fiber optic cable connection, or parameter mismatch.

Main Alarm Information

Alarm FANUC SV5136
Alarm Type FSSB / Servo Configuration Alarm
Alarm Meaning Insufficient number of amplifiers recognized by FSSB
Main Related Area Servo amplifier connection, control power, fiber optic cable, axis setting, FSSB compatibility parameter 14476

Common Causes of SV5136 Alarm

  • The number of detected servo amplifiers is less than the number of controlled axes
  • Servo amplifier hardware connection is incorrect
  • Servo amplifier control power is unstable or insufficient
  • Wiring connection is loose or incorrect
  • FSSB fiber optic cable or optical port is connected incorrectly
  • One servo amplifier is not powered on or not ready
  • The connected servo amplifier model does not match the CNC system
  • FSSB compatibility parameter 14476 is not set correctly
  • FSSB initialization setting is incomplete or incorrect
  • NC controller axis card or main board fault

Recommended Troubleshooting Order

  1. Enter the FSSB monitoring screen and check the actual FSSB connection status.
  2. Confirm which servo amplifier connection is abnormal or missing.
  3. Check the hardware connection of each servo amplifier inside the cabinet.
  4. Confirm that the servo amplifier control power supply voltage is stable.
  5. Check whether the wiring connection is correct and not loose.
  6. Check whether the fiber optic cable and optical ports are connected correctly.
  7. If amplifier LED is not displayed, troubleshoot the amplifier power issue first.
  8. Check whether the servo amplifier model is compatible with the CNC system.
  9. Confirm whether FSSB compatibility parameter 14476 is set correctly.
  10. If needed, perform FSSB initialization again.
  11. If the alarm still remains, check or replace the controller axis card or main board.

Step 1: Check the FSSB Monitoring Screen

Enter the system FSSB monitoring screen and check the actual FSSB connection status. Compare the recognized amplifier configuration with the machine’s actual controlled axis configuration.

This is the fastest way to confirm which servo amplifier is missing, not recognized, or connected abnormally. If one amplifier does not appear on the FSSB screen, continue checking its power, optical cable, and hardware connection.

Step 2: Check Servo Amplifier Hardware Connection

Check the servo amplifiers inside the electrical cabinet. Confirm that the amplifier power supply is stable, the hardware wiring is correct, and the connectors are fully inserted.

Pay special attention to:

  • Servo amplifier control power supply condition
  • Loose or poor wiring connection
  • Fiber optic cable insertion direction and port matching
  • Amplifier LED status

If the amplifier LED does not light up, troubleshoot the amplifier power supply and control voltage first.

Step 3: Check Fiber Optic Cable and Optical Port Connection

Check whether the FSSB fiber optic cable is connected correctly between the CNC system and servo amplifiers. A wrong connection order, loose optical cable, damaged fiber cable, or dirty optical interface may prevent one amplifier from being recognized.

If possible, replace the suspected fiber optic cable with a known good cable for testing.

Step 4: Check Amplifier Model Compatibility

Check whether the connected servo amplifier model matches the CNC system. If the amplifier model is not compatible with the system, it may not be recognized correctly by FSSB.

If the amplifier is not compatible, replace it with a matching model. If the amplifier is compatible, continue by checking the FSSB compatibility setting.

Step 5: Check FSSB Compatibility Parameter 14476

If the hardware connection is correct and the amplifier model is compatible, confirm whether the FSSB system compatibility parameter 14476 is set correctly.

An incorrect setting of parameter 14476 may cause the CNC to recognize the amplifier incorrectly or fail to match the FSSB connection structure.

Step 6: Perform FSSB Initialization Again

After confirming hardware connection, power status, amplifier compatibility, and FSSB-related parameters, reperform the FSSB initialization if needed.

This may help rebuild the correct amplifier recognition and axis mapping relationship.

Step 7: Check the Controller Axis Card or Main Board

If the above checks are completed and SV5136 still remains, the fault may be related to the controller servo axis card or the CNC main board.

In this case, the axis card or main board may need to be repaired or replaced.

SV5136 Diagnostic Table

Finding Possible Cause Recommended Action
FSSB screen shows fewer amplifiers than expected Missing or abnormal servo amplifier connection Check which amplifier is not recognized and inspect its hardware connection
Amplifier LED is off Amplifier control power or supply issue Check power supply voltage and amplifier power status
Optical connection is unstable or missing Fiber optic cable or optical port problem Check optical cable order, insertion, and interface condition
Amplifier model does not match the system Incompatible servo amplifier Replace with a compatible amplifier model
Hardware is normal but amplifier recognition is incorrect Parameter 14476 or FSSB setting issue Check FSSB compatibility parameter 14476 and FSSB settings
Alarm remains after all checks and FSSB initialization Controller axis card or main board fault Repair or replace the axis card or main board

When Does SV5136 Commonly Appear?

  • After replacing a servo amplifier
  • After changing FSSB optical cable connection
  • After machine parameter loss or restoration
  • After changing the controlled axis configuration
  • When one servo amplifier has no control power
  • When the connected amplifier model does not match the CNC system
  • When parameter 14476 is set incorrectly

Important Notes Before Replacing Parts

Do not replace the CNC controller axis card or main board immediately when SV5136 appears. This alarm is often caused by external connection issues, amplifier power problems, optical cable problems, model mismatch, or FSSB parameter setting errors.

Before replacing parts, record the CNC system model, alarm screen, FSSB monitoring screen, servo amplifier models, amplifier LED status, power supply voltage, parameter 14476 setting, optical cable connection order, and recent maintenance history.
